I am creating a comic and while I have the art thing down (more or less), I want the lettering to look decent, so I'm wondering what size to do the lettering on a comic art-board (11 x 17), which will of course be reduced to standard comic size.

lettering in comic books follows the standard of architectural lettering: write in all caps and has a minimum height of 3mm and maximum of 5mm depending on the size of the comic, also remember the space between words should be an invisible "O".
letters should also look stable, avoid swaying letters, and remember that using guidelines is recommended if you're a beginner.

I've been googling for stand-up comedy courses in manchester or west yorkshire, but to no avail. Hot courses.co.uk doesn't find anything either.

I see cartoonish comic books and then there's comic books that look more real? Other than the drawing style what makes the difference? Is it all in the inking or something?
Its on the number of details.
The more the details, the more realistic a comic character becomes.
The lesser the details, the more cartoon-ish it is.
But the anatomy also has to do with it. You know what I mean 
And also, If you add more shades (shadows), it becomes more realistic…

Hey, I am interested in doing stand-up comedy. I have never done it obviously, so I would like to know the process in becoming a stand-up comedian on the side.
I am going to college next year (not related to any of this obviously) and would like to start stand up comedy then. I can't now since I live in a small town.
Do most colleges offer a night or something where you can do stand up comedy even for a little bit? If not, is it hard to find places offering open mic nights?

Start with a friendly audience.(small)
Try your material out with people who will honestly tell you if you're funny or not.
carry a notebook around with you and jot down funny stuff. The world is full of funny. you just gotta find it.
