What kind of stories are comic publishers looking for these days ?

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I want to make a new comic book ( not exactly your typical super heroe in modern city one though ) more like a random epic adventure in a different world.

What exactly are comic book publishers looking for these days though ?

Well, comedy.

I don't really know what you're asking. But if you're trying to do the whole "I'll write/create what's popular," please, don't. Because then you're not really doing what you want to anymore, and you're trying to please people by doing what you're not really into. It's like writing a book about unicorns and fairies when you prefer dragons and Hydras.

Just do what you want to do. I couldn't tell you what comic book publishers are looking for, anyways.

How to gain exposure as a comedy writer?

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I've recently begun writing a twice-weekly comedy "blog" and I really want to increase readership beyond friends and family. Ideally I'd love to become a writer as a career, but you gotta start somewhere! Let's say I actually AM talented (friends and family say I am but don't really lend a critical eye)..how can I gain more readers and exposure for my talents?

You should probably become a stand-up comic or find someone in that field who is willing to try your material and buy the pieces that work. Find an up-and-comer, not a proven comic.

What institutions worldwide teach drawing comic strips via correspondence?

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

I wish to learn how to draw comic strips. I live in the UAE so institutions which provide such knowledge via correspondence are my best choice. I also need to know about their fees and literature>

Guy Gilchrist's Cartoonist's Academy in Simsbury at 860-651-4400. but he charges 40.00 a class via the internet.

I I were you I would go to his web site
http://www.gilchriststudios.com/classdescriptions.html
and look over his samples and then go perchase a few books that teach the same skills. If you are any kind of an artist you will be able to judge for yourself how well you are doing. All you need is suggestions of which way to begin deveolping your talents.

Is there a format in which to draw comic strips?

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I want to start a comic so I can practice drawing and improve a bit, but don't know if there's a specific format for the pannels each strip. It seems that the comics I read follow a standard format, even if the style varies from time to time. Can someone please brief me on this?

This website has a complete guide to drawing comics from writing to self publishing. Good luck!

What is the name of this comedy technique?

Friday, November 14th, 2008

I wanted to know the official name for the comedy skit where it is two people and one acts as the other person's arms. Usually one person stands behind the other, the one in front has their arms wrapped around their back and the person behind puts their arms through the persons' arms wrapped around them and acts as their arms. It's been bugging me and i wanted to know if this skit has an official name.
