How hard is it to mix comedy and drama?
April 29th, 2009 | by admin |My friends are making a film for school, and it's going to be a comedy/drama. We've been influenced by The Office and Scrubs (shows like that). How hard is it to nicely transition from comedy to drama?
It really isn't all that difficult. Film is a reflection of life. Life is both funny and dramatic. The key is to look for the honesty in a situation. What is sad or funny to the characters in the scene and what is sad or funny to the audience watching the scene. The answer may be the same for both, or you may find that the audience and characters feel completely opposite emotions at times. Scrubs and The Office have several good examples of moments where the characters are experiencing something awful, but it's hilarious to watch.
Just be honest in your film making and you will be fine.
All the best!

This is a good question. For some it's hard, and some, it's easy. Try out a few writings for your movie and see how they flow. If it doesn't work, try another writing. Eventually, it will work, and your movie will be done!
