What is a good comedy audition piece for a musical?
November 29th, 2008 | by admin |We have a school musical audition in a couple weeks. I’m unsure of what the musical is. I’m good at acting, not as confident about my singing. I know I’m not a soprano, but I can keep a note. I would like a song that could show of my acting abilities, and that i can keep a tune. Preferably a comedy song as I can work more with this. Any ideas?
A good song for this, in my humble opinion, is “Popular” from Wicked. If you can make your voice sweet and really overdo it, it could be a really great audition song. I suggest listening to Kristen Chenoweth’s rendition for some techniques to add to your own performance. The only thing is that it’s in the high alto-low soprano range.
If it’s not in your range or not your style, try “Adelaide’s Lament” from Guys and Dolls. I heard someone sing it for an audition ten years ago, and it’s stuck with me all this time. It’s definitely a song in which you can alternate between singing and speech, and there’s plenty of opportunity for showcasing your acting talents in it.
I hope one of these helps you! Break a leg on your audition!
